Trending: More celebs pulling plug on Twitter accounts

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK -

Don't look for baby blogging from mother-to-be Jennifer Love Hewitt on Twitter. She calling it quits with the popular social medium, citing the "negativity" she's encountered as her reason for logging off.

Alec Baldwin axed his Twitter account, a frequent hot spot of controversy, once again after threatening to "f*** up" a Daily Mail reporter. The reason? Said reporter apparently accused Baldwin's wife of posting a series of happy tweets during James Gandolfini's funeral.

"F*** the ugly editors of Intouch! I'm not racist! My account was hacked," Amanda Bynes tweeted in June. In another Twitter rant she called "ugly ex" Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi "an ugly duckling," adding that "his best photos aren't s*** compared to mine at my best."

Bynes later apologized for the "hack," insisting that Mescudi "isn't ugly."

More and more Hollywood celebs are threatening to pull the plug on their Twitter accounts after wild rants and pubilc criticism.

Here's a rundown on some of the most recent incidents:

James Franco
Why he quit:
After getting flak for tweeting while he hosted the Oscars, Franco said his Twitter account began to cause problems and got "dangerous."
When he quit: April 2011
When he returned: January 2012

Amanda Bynes
Why she quit:
"If I don't love something anymore, I stop doing it," Bynes tweeted in June 2010. Though in that instance she was talking about acting, we can only assume the same applied to the social-networking site.
When she quit: September 2010
When she returned: May 2013 — and she hasn't stopped tweeting since

Miley Cyrus
Why she quit:
"Liam doesn't have a Twitter and he wants ME to delete mine with good reason," she wrote as her farewell tweet, referring to now-fiancé Liam Hemsworth.
When she quit: October 2009
When she returned: April 2011

John Mayer
Why he quit:
"I couldn't have a complete thought anymore, and I was a tweetaholic."
When he quit: September 2010
When he returned: He hasn't, though his reps tweet from the official @johnmayer account.

Nicki Minaj
Why she quit: Minaj lost it when an unofficial fan site started leaking unreleased songs. "Like seriously, its but so much a person can take," she wrote. "Good f–king bye."
When she quit: April 2012
When she returned: January 2013

Chris Brown
Why he quit: Which time? He first left after accusing the industry of "blackballing" his Graffiti album following his assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna. The second time followed a profanity-filled tirade about why people were still focusing on that assault (sample tweet: "That sh– happened three years ago … people please grow up"). And he deleted his account one last time after a vulgar exchange with female comedian Jenny Johnson.
When he quit: December 2009, November 2011, and November 2012
When he returned: He came back every time, most recently in December 2012
