Memphis police confirm that a 13-year-old boy was shot in the leg at Riverside Drive and Beale Street on Fourth of July evening. He was transported to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in non-critical condition.
Police have since made an arrest in that shooting. Eighteen-year-old Tashun Jenkins has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
According to the affidavit Jenkins and another man were in an altercation at Tom Lee Park. Jenkins and the man began shooting at each other. Gunfire hit the teen in the leg.
A witness saw the shooting, grabbed the victim, took him to safety and pointed out the shooter to police.
"I cleaned up the wound, put pressure on it, put him on my shoulder and walked to Riverside," said the Good Samaritan who helped the teen.
Jenkins was charged with aggravated assault and his bond was set at $150,000. He's scheduled to make his first appearance in Shelby County General Sessions Court Monday morning, July 8.
No word yet on if the victim has been released from the hospital.
