Mother of 2 killed in SE Atlanta home invasion

Posted: Updated:

A mother of two was killed in an overnight home invasion in southeast Atlanta.

Neighbors say 30-year-old Camease Miller's body was found in a closet. She had evidently been trying to hide from the gunman.

Atlanta police received the call late Tuesday night that someone had been shot at a house on Van Vleck Avenue SE.  Homicide detectives believe it was a home invasion.

Miller was a trainee in the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency. Officials there say she was on her way to be being hired by the city in the federally-funded program.

Ed Gilgor chairs the Atlanta Neighborhood Planning Unit for his district and has lived there for 13 years. He says even though Atlanta police are still looking for the men who murdered 33-year-old Patrick Catrona in the neighborhood back in May, this crime is different.

"The perpetrator or perpetrators picked this person and this dwelling specifically. In a sense, I would draw the distinction with the Catrona shooting. That was obviously a totally random street crime that went severely awry," said Gilgor.

Miller was the mother of two boys, aged 8 and 10. She had been training for an eventual city job since March of this year.

It's the third murder that police have investigated at that neighborhood in recent months.
