It had been suspected for months, but it's now official. Two Neelys Bar-B-Que restaurants in Memphis are closed for good. However, the closings have nothing to do with Interstate Bar-B-Que, owned by Jim Neely.
You can still catch Patrick and Gina Neely on their cable TV show "The Neelys."
Back in October of 2012 the Neelys announced they were closing the original location on Jefferson along with the location on Mt. Moriah and were shutting down the catering business and the concessions at the FedExForum for renovations.
With the Facebook announcement from Patrick, his Uncle Jim Neely who owns Interstate Bar-B-Que, the Neely Bar-B-Que business is once again only in the hands of the man who started it all back in 1979.
The Neelys close Neelys Bar-B-Que restaurants in Memphis 'indefinitely'
"Neeleys are going to always be a part of Memphis because if you look around I got two daughters working here and at the airport," Jim Neely said. "I got two sons. One baby son runs the Southaven store. The other son will eventually run here and now that the airport is dying so bad, got my eye on Cordova."
While Jim Neely continues to keep the Neely Bar-B-Que name alive and well in Memphis, at least one of the former Neely Bar-B-Que locations is being taken over by another restaurant.
