Atlanta first to taste Starbucks new hand-crafted sodas

ATLANTA -

Patrons right here in Atlanta may notice some bubbly new options making an appearance on the menu of their local Starbucks.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the coffee giant began testing hand-crafted sodas in Atlanta and Austin, TX, stores last week.

Flavors include root beer, ginger ale and lemon ale. These are all made by Starbucks baristas using a carbonation machine.

Prices range from $2.45 to $3.45.

Just a couple of weeks ago, Starbucks made another big move by posting calorie counts on menu boards nationwide next week, ahead of a federal regulation that would require it to do so.

Calorie counts on menus are already required in some parts of the country, including New York City.

But starting June 25, Starbucks Corp. says customers at its more than 11,000 U.S. locations will be able to see that there are 300 calories in a small caramel Frappuccino and 230 calories in a small Iced Caffe Mocha.
