Homicide detectives hope earring identifies woman

DOWNTOWN MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Investigators with the Memphis Police Homicide Bureau are trying to identity a severely burned body of a woman who was wearing an earring at the time of her death when crews discovered her in late June.

According to Memphis Police, crews were conducting traffic checks in the area of St. Elmo and School Field the morning on June 25 when they were flagged down by a man who said he saw a burned vehicle in a wooded area.

The officers went to the wooded area off Hawkins Hills near Point Church and found a vehicle completed burned inside and out. An officer looked inside the rear of the vehicle and observed what appeared to be a human skull and a severely burned body.

A cause of death has not yet been identified.
