Arizona firefighters brace for more hot temps

Updated:

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - Firefighters working on dousing a blaze burning in the Granite Mountain Wilderness of northern Arizona are bracing for another round of hot temperatures.

The heat wave continued across Arizona on Saturday as crews watched for any hot spots on the Doce Fire to flare up. The blaze is now 94% contained after charring more than 10 square miles northwest of Prescott.

Fire managers say the added heat may help interior pockets of vegetation burn and smoke is likely.

They also warned of ash whirls, which are often mistaken for smoke and are created by a whirl wind with cool air pushing down while hot air lifts up and carrying ash with it.

Ash whirls can range anywhere from 2 feet to over 100 feet tall.
