Crash kills 2 people in Queens; driver charged with DWI

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police say a teenage boy and girl are dead and four others were injured after a crash on the Grand Central Parkway in Queens early Saturday morning.

Authorities say the 1996 Honda was traveling Eastbound on the Grand Central Parkway around 3:50 a.m. when it lost control and struck a guardrail in the vicinity of Utopia Parkway and 188th Street. Police say the driver was driving impaired.

The vehicle was traveling in the center lane at a high speed then moved into the right lane before the driver lost control. According to police, the driver began to brake causing the vehicle to slide off the roadway onto the shoulder and into the guardrail.

The impact of the crash caused three people sitting in the back of the Honda to be ejected from the rear window. Two of the victims in the crash were killed.

18-year-old Anil Persaud and 17-year-old Meera Dukharan both from Queens where pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the third person who was ejected from the vehicle, 17-year-old Brian George, was taken to New York Hospital and is listed in serious condition.

The driver, 20-year-old Madosh Hansraj, a 19-year-old male passenger sitting in the front and 21-year-old male passenger were also taken to New York Hospital.

Police arrested Hansraj and he faces multiple charges, including 2 counts of Manslaughter, 2 counts of Criminally Negligent Homicide, Illegal Speed, Speeding and Driving While Ability Impaired.

    There was a wild scene on the Van Wyck Expressway on Sunday. A large group of dirt bikers and ATV riders were driving recklessly near Hillside Avenue. Police say many of the bikers were going the wrong way on the road bringing traffic to a stop.
