TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- A man accused of killing his live-in girlfriend and then dumping her naked body on a Tempe street has been formally charged in the case.

A criminal complaint Thursday accuses 27-year-old Douglas Ray George of second-degree murder and abandonment or concealment of a dead body.

His next scheduled court appearance is July 2.

Tempe police say 23-year-old Annovedwin Begay-Barakzai was beaten and stabbed multiple times. An autopsy showed she died from blunt-force trauma and the stab wounds were superficial.

Police say George and Begay-Barakzai lived together in Tempe and he was arrested June 4 for suspicion of a domestic violence assault on his girlfriend.

Investigators believe Begay-Barakzai was killed at a different location than where her body was found by a passer-by June 15. She wasn't identified until last Friday.
