Music fans experience extreme heat at Vans Warped Tour

MESA, Ariz. -

The Vans Warped Tour took place in Mesa and thousands of music fans are braving the extreme heat to see their favorite bands.

As many tried to escape the heat, about 10,000 people embraced it at the concert Thursday night.

"Buy the strongest sunscreen that you can reapply every three hours.  Try to stay out of the sun as much as possible and drink two gallons of water a day," said Joey Pino.

Concert goers beat the heat with misters, fans and a giant slip and slide, but the single most "cool" place on the grounds was a reverse day care where they could drop off parents while they listed to the bands.

"Our kids have gone to first aid a couple of times already.. it's hard for them to stay cool," said Melissa St. Jude.

Ticket holders stood in line to refill water bottles, but the heat still proved to be too powerful for some.

"I was standing in line and fainted," said Cassandra Oliver.

At Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, visitors got their first taste of scorching temperatures.

Helen Barker from Washington, D.C. is visiting her grandchildren.

"As soon as they get here, I'll begin to disrobe and figure out how I'm going to put shorts on in the car," she said.

The extreme heat threw a curve ball in some plans for valley residents and visitors alike.
