Residents displaced after building front collapse

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Residents of a Pilsen neighborhood building were displaced from their home early Wednesday after the façade of the over 100-year-old building collapsed, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

About 1:50 a.m., firefighters were notified of the collapse, which occurred in the 1100 block of West 19th Street, a fire official said.

It was unclear how many people were displaced from the building.

The building itself remains structurally solid, the official said. But the exterior front wall and an air conditioning unit came loose from the rest of the structure during the collapse.

The building is more than 110 years old, a fire official said.
