A Memphis firefighter was injured fighting a fire in South Memphis Tuesday morning.
The firefighter reportedly injured his neck when some debris fell on him while fighting the fire. He was taken to Methodist South Hospital for treatment.
The fire department got a call to a fire at a commercial building with apartments in the 500 block of Mississippi near Danny Thomas.
The fire started around 7:30 a.m.
Three people were inside the two-level structure and they were not injured, fire officials said. The trio were able to exit the building before firefighters arrived.
After the fire was extinguished, it was revealed the two-story structure did not have a sprinkler system.
The fire caused an estimated $105,000 in damages to the neighborhood grocery store and five units on the second floor. A fire official said the fire started on the second floor.
The exact source of the fire remains under investigation. The Red Cross provided assistance for seven adults.
