DETROIT (WJBK) -

The GM River Days festival is happening this weekend along the riverfront in Detroit.

"It takes up three quarters of a mile down the river and fun for the family, great food, too," said promoter Jon Witz.

The Guess Who, The O'Jays and George Clinton will be performing. Other activities include Coast Guard ship and river boat tours, jet ski exhibitions and a display of sand sculptures.

There is also an 18 ride carnival, which Witz said includes "Ferris wheels, swings in the sky, really high energy drop towers, stuff for the kiddies."

The city of Detroit says workers and retirees have approved pension cuts, a crucial step to emerging from the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. The city reported results Monday after two months of balloting ended July 11. A judge still must hold a trial to determine if Detroit's overall bankruptcy plan is fair and feasible, but support from retirees is vital.
