Booming Hernando Parks and Rec in need of volunteers

Posted: Updated:
HERNANDO, Miss. (FOX13) -

Hernando Parks and Recreation needs volunteers and coaches said Director Dewayne Williams on Wednesday.

The department has taken on a baseball and softball program with 800 kids that was privately run. On top of that, the city's sports programs continue to boom with basketball camps and basketball season, football season, and tennis and soccer this summer.

The city of Hernando also has a fall baseball season coming up.

According to Williams, the city currently has about 300 volunteers who keep the programs running. Coaches aren't the only volunteers needed, the city needs volunteers to help clean up the fields and sports facilities both before and after the games.

Williams said volunteers help keep the cost of running the programs low and allow more families to participate.

If you would like to be a volunteer or coach, you can contact the Hernando Department of Parks and Recreation at 662-429-2688 or online at www.Hernandoparks.org.
