Accused School District Scammers Plead Guilty

Posted: Updated:

Six of the people accused in one of the largest public corruption cases in our area's history plead guilty today in court.

18 people total are accused of bilking the Bensalem school district out of more than one million dollars over a period of years. Some of them even worked for the school district.

The Bucks County District Attorney's office confirms that those pleading guilty will get 50 to 200 hours of community service as part of the requirement to pleading guilty in this case.

As part of community service, they have to do whatever maintenance the school district needs, including picking up trash.

Prosecutors are also seeking $500,000 in restitution from defendants.

Investigators say that the accused had set up an operation to buy auto parts for the school district, but they turned around and sold those parts for cash. There were also ghost employees who never showed up to work, but collected hundreds of thousands from taxpayers in salaries.

The District Attorney's office says that more guilty pleas will come in the following week.
