Cool relief: Company donates A/C to valley sisters

SUN CITY, Ariz. -

During the summer, most people in the valley escape the heat in the pool or inside with air conditioning. But one Sun City woman didn't have that choice.

Her A/C broke down, and with no money to pay for a new one, she was just going to tough it out. that is until a local company stepped in with some cool relief.

The Ninke sisters desperately needed some cool air.

"She has some rare health conditions, she can't live with [unbearable heat]," says Theresa Ninke.

Temperatures were in the 100s inside Patricia Ninke's home. It was terrible for Patricia, who has been in and out of the hospital.

"Me and my sister, trying to get an air conditioning unit. We've been without air for three weeks."

They were looking for someone who might be able to fix their unit. Alaskan Home Services came out to help.

"He looked at the air conditioning unit. He said you definitely need a new unit. It was pretty bad -- it's 35 years old."

It was the original unit on the house. The sisters could afford to fix the unit, but not to replace it. They figured it would be another hot night in the house. But Alaskan had another idea.

"We got good news. I was very happy to hear him say that he is going to put a brand new one on," says Ninke.

Patrick Higgins of Alaskan Air Services made sure the new unit, right out of the box, is running smoothly for the sisters.

"Nobody deserves to live in that situation, especially an elderly woman," says Higgins.

It's not unusual for the company to give a person in need some help with cool air. The Ninke sisters were in tears.

"They couldn't be more thankful, overrun with emotions," says Higgins.

The sisters say it's a blessing they will sleep well in the cool air.

The air conditioner unit is worth around $2,000.
