The Greater Memphis Chamber launched a #MEMLUV: Rewards4Rewards campaign
on Tuesday in an effort to welcome Southwest Airlines to the Mid-South
and encourage residents to enroll in the low-cost airline's rewards
In May Southwest Airlines said it will begin service at Memphis International Airport in November.
The Chamber, along with the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Mid-South Air Service Task Force, have set a goal to sign-up at least 50,000 new Southwest Rapid Rewards members (the airline's frequent flyer program) by Nov. 30.
The grassroots initiative will "reward" six locals with two round-trip tickets on Southwest at the end of the campaign in November. #MEMLUV is open to residents of the Mid-South and those 18 and older are encouraged to participate.

"We want Southwest Airlines to know, even before their planes land in the market, that Memphis and the Mid-South, are ready to fly with them," said John W. Moore, President and CEO, Greater Memphis Chamber. "By establishing this base of supporters, Southwest will know our commitment level to support them is solid. Even more importantly, it will allow Mid-Southerners to have the opportunity to see the impact that this airline will have on the region."
Two websites have been dedicated for the #MEMLUV campaign: http://www.southwest.com/memphischamber and http://www.memphischamber.com/southwest.
"Our hope is that everyone will encourage friends and family to participate and that employers will encourage their employees as well," Moore said. "The airline is taking a chance on Memphis and we want them to know it was the right decision. Even if you already have a Rapid Rewards card, you can still enter for a chance to win the tickets and show your support."
The start of the #MEMLUV: Rewards4Rewards campaign coincides with Southwest Airlines 42nd birthday.
The winners for the #MEMLUV: Rewards4Rewards will be announced at the Chamber's Annual Chairman's Luncheon in December.
"We have a tremendous opportunity to grow the leisure and meetings market as a result of Southwest Airlines' loyal customers and new lower cost service," said Kevin Kane, President and CEO, Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau.
"It is great to feel the LUV and excitement from the Memphis community," added Southwest's Director of Rapid Rewards Jonathan Clarkson. "We can't wait to officially arrive in Memphis in November, and one of the best ways for Memphians to get to know Southwest Airlines ahead of our arrival is to enroll in our Rapid Rewards program now and start earning points which then can then redeem for Southwest travel down the road."
