MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

The Memphis Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 8700 block of Clear Sky Path Monday night around 10:22 p.m.

It was determined the house caught fire as a result of a lightning strike to the roof. Over $50,000 in damage was reported.

Approximately twenty six (26) emergency response personnel responded to the fire according to MFD.

The home did have a working smoke detector.

The MFD urges all citizens to maintain a working smoke detector. Any City of Memphis resident can apply for a free smoke detector by contacting the Fire Museum of Memphis at 901-636-5650.

MFD recommends you always have a plan of escape in case of a fire.
