Monday afternoon the Shelby County Commission approved the budget for the for 2013-14 fiscal year for the Shelby County Board of Education.
However they have not settled on a way to pay for that budget.
The commission voted to approve the budget with seven yes votes. Three commissioners voted against the school district budget. There was one abstention.

The school board budget was approved, but not without a great amount of disappointment that none of the school budget leaders were there to answer questions.
The budget passage almost didn't happen as there was a motion by Commissioner Wyatt Bunker to delay the vote until July 8. The motion failed.
The commissioners also voted on a tax rate ordinance, which includes a 36-cent tax increase. The tax rate ordinance came up one vote short of passing, failing by a 6-5 vote. However the motion will still be given a third and final reading at the July 8 meeting.
Commissioner Sidney Chism abstained.
Interim Superintendent Dorsey Hopson was not present for the school district budget passage.
The last day for Memphis City Schools is Monday, July 1.
