Charges were upgraded Monday for Tony McKinney, the man accused of killing 3-year-old Ciriyah West at the end of May. In addition to four charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect, McKinney now faces first degree murder charges.
Memphis Police said he was babysitting his girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter when he beat the child to death.

Ciriyah's funeral is on hold because family members don't have enough money. Moving on after her death is even more difficult for her family because the last thing they thought they would need for the little girl was funeral insurance.
Gerald Sanders, the victim's grandfather, thought she was covered.
"I thought I had her on insurance and she put her on them, but she said she didn't really know for her, the grand baby too," Sanders said. "I tried to get the insurance people to try to take some $10,000 for to bury and they could not do it like that."
The Joe Ford Funeral Home at 1616 Winchester is in charge of funeral arrangements for little Ciriyah. Unfortunately her family does not have the money to pay for it. Joe Ford Funeral Home phone number is 901-345-6075.
Sanders walked all the way from his Orange Mound home early Monday morning to FOX13 News studios to leave word that he needed help. Then he walked all the way back home again to sit and wait to see if help would come. When FOX!3 News arrived at his home, he was still on his front porch with his friend Willie.
"So I was just trying to reach out," he said. "Can I get some type of help to bury my granddaughter?"
In the meantime, the family tries to console each other
"She told me she was all right," Sanders said. "She wanted me to hold up. She wanted me to hold up and I told them to hold up. We are just trying to get this done."
