Body found on Clinton River believed to be missing kayaker

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

Police say a body has been found in the Clinton River. They're working to identify the victim, but it is believed to be Oliver Dixon III, a kayaker missing since Thursday.

According to a news release, Shelby Township Police got a tip call from a resident who spotted a blue and white kayak stuck under a log jam on the Clinton River around 5 p.m. Sunday in the area where crews have been searching.

Divers with the Macomb County Sheriff's Dept. Marine Division, Shelby Township police and fire and Sterling Heights police worked to remove the body from the river.

Dixon, a 47-year-old father of three, parked his vehicle at the River Bends Park boat launch Thursday. He planned to kayak to Heritage Park in Utica but had not been seen since posting a photo on Facebook Thursday afternoon.
