City looking to overhaul garbage service

Posted: Updated:

The city is looking into ways to overhaul garbage service.

One plan has the city changing the pickup schedules and charging customers for certain oversized options.

They're also looking into creating a retirement plan for some older employees because some of the sanitation workers are still in their 70s and still on the job.

"We're going to have to make some adjustments in service, what we would propose to do though is invest in the future of our city as well as those employees who have served the city so well for so long," CAO George Little said.

Some council members want to examine outsourcing trash service to an outside company.

The council will consider the options in the coming weeks.
