Sebastian De La Cruz, an 11-year-old mariachi singer, had the honor of singing the National Anthem before Game 3 of the NBA Finals this week.

And while his rendition received plenty of praise on social media sites like Twitter, there were plenty of comments that concerned his race.

Twitter user @Gordon_Bombay24 (whose account no longer exists) tweeted, "THIS KID IS MEXICAN WHY IS HE SINGING THAT NATIONAL ANTHEM?"

Another user, @UncleD37 (whose account also no longer exists), tweeted, "9 OUT OF 10 CHANCE THAT KID SINGING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM IS ILLEGAL."

Well, they couldn't have been more wrong.

"My father was actually in the Navy for a pretty long time and I actually salute him today for that and I want to thank him," De La Cruz told a San Antonio television station Wednesday. "People just assume I'm Mexican. But I'm not from Mexico. I'm from San Antonio, born and raised, true San Antonio Spurs fan."

De La Cruz, a former contestant on America's Got Talent, says he hopes to one day sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl and the World Series.
