MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (WJBK) -
A Macomb County woman will spend the rest of her life in prison after a judge denied her request for a fifth trial in the bathtub drowning of her 4-year-old grandson.
In March a Macomb County jury convicted Terry Borgia of first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse in DeAngelo Tobia's 2010 slaying. Circuit Court Judge Peter Maceroni affirmed that Wednesday before sentencing the 64-year-old Borgia.
Borgia stood trial three earlier times before she was found guilty of first-degree murder in her fourth trial.
DeAngelo drowned at a Clinton Township apartment Borgia shared with her adult daughter, Tonina, who is the boy's aunt and has been on medications for mental issues.
DeAngelo's mother Amelia Alkasmikha and father Bashar told the judge they are not convinced Tonina was not involved in the child's death. "We just want justice for our son," Amelia Alkasmikha said.
