With the start of school just a few months away, these are items that will impact the student on a day to day basis.
Many of the big money items have been worked out, but it's the policies that effect day to day that still need to be decided on.
The school board will be tackling a number of issues this evening in a special called meeting that's about to get underway. The unified board will be revising and repealing polices when they don't match up between the city and the county system.
That includes the cell phone policy-phones are not allowed now, but the board is planning on allowing phones at school as long as they are off.
And the corporal punishment policy-right now Memphis does not allow corporal punishment while Shelby County schools do.
Student conduct policies will also be debated. Also on the agenda, votes on transportation and the unified budget. Those items were decided at previous meetings but will be altered slightly tonight.
The district plans to use money from the reserve fund to make up the balance of what was approved by the Shelby County Commission in funding.
Should corporal punishment be allowed
in schools? What about cell phones? A pretty good debate is going on right now
