FOX 2 intern Erin Winters takes on Silicon Valley

An intern interviewing Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson… WHAT?! How does that happen? Although the comedians star as unsavvy, middle-aged Google interns in the upcoming film, "The Internship," this was no intern-to-intern interview… more like intern-to-movie stars, a picture that's rarely painted.
I'm Erin the intern, and last week I got to do something spectacular and unforgettable, thanks to my FOX 2 family.  Late last month, I was paged into the news director's office- my initial thought being "oh lawd, what did (or didn't) I do?"  Little did I know, she had planned for me to take a trip to California with Lee Thomas.
I walked into her red office, and Lee told me I was in trouble. He was joking of course, but I think my face turned a brighter shade of red than her office walls, and little sweat beads formed on my forehead.  She told me to sit down. I did. She looked at me. I looked back. She smiled. I was puzzled, but smiled since she was smiling. Then she asked me a series of questions that led to the gold.
"Erin, would you like to go out with Lee Thomas soon? Do you want to see that new movie The Internship?" I sprouted up. "Yes! I'd love to!" She was still cheesing so hard, "But wait there's more… Have you ever been to California?" Which I had when I was five years old, but the heck if I remember that trip.  "Well, kind of when I was a baby!"

She cheesed even harder and told me how 20th Century Fox offered the reporters an opportunity to bring an intern to California for the movie screening for "The Internship."  I bolted out of my seat and screamed… I'm pretty sure you heard me.

This was a dream come true.  When I arrived to Mountain View, Calif., I was on cloud nine. I checked in, went to my room and called my parents screaming. Soon after, Lee and I walked around Palo Alto, Calif., a quaint city comparable to Birmingham and then headed off to see the movie!

"The Internship" was hilarious! But with the 3-hour time difference between Michigan and California, jet lag kicked in after the movie.  The next day was my big day. Lee had offered me the opportunity to do the celebrity interviews and there's no way in the world I was going to say no.

When we arrived at the Google Center, I started getting butterflies… the good kind that float around in your stomach.  They are the easiest way for me to tell that I am about to do something life-changing, so I was excited for their visit.

Lee and I prepared some questions, and I was given loads of valuable advice throughout the trip. It was time, and first up was actress Rose Byrne. I asked Lee to start so that his swag and skills could rub off on me.  My butterflies were turning into nerves, but I just needed a little glimpse of Lee in his zone to get into mine.  And as soon as I sat down in that chair halfway through the interview, all the butterflies, nerves, Taco Bell from the road, and whatever else was in my stomach had surely disappeared.

That was my warm-up interview and I was ready to nail the next one! It was a fun group of three supporting actors.  And then came the time for the grand finale of the trip.  My interview with the main characters: Vaughn and Wilson. It went amazingly. They were hilarious and encouraging which made the interview so much easier.

My trip was such an amazing learning experience.  Lee, along with other reporters, gave me tons of valuable advice that I will never forget.  It was an unforgettable opportunity and I am so thankful to everyone supporting me through the journey to my dreams.
