Bass Pro has moved back its opening date at the Pyramid

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

The lyrics to an old Naked Eye's song "Second time around, I'm still believing, you said you'd be here..promises, promises."

Bass Pro, well now it's not opening until the end of next year.

Businesses in the Pinch District waiting for the boost in business from the mega store will wait a little longer.

Owner Jake Schorr of Westy's restaurant on Main street says, "This business, the hotels, TJ Mulligans will all benefit, but what's most important is all of downtown will benefit. They'll spread out, people will come from 100, 200 miles, spend the weekend we hope."

Schorr has been on this corner in the Pinch District since 1983. He says he survived after the pyramid closed but not everyone was able to financially hold on. Schorr says, "We're kind of forgotten compared to the middle of downtown, south end of downtown, Beale Street of course, but we're here."

The delay in Bass Pro is a combination of seismic and lighting changes.

Red Fish Gallery and Boutique owner Linda Thomas just wants the mega store to follow through on its promise. Thomas says, "It's disappointing because when they open then I'll have more traffic, but I'm still behind them."

Most of the business in the Pinch District comes from people who work down here, of people stopping by on the trolley; it's a major reason why this area is waiting for Bass Pro to open.

Thomas says, "People are going to drift in an area even if they go the Bass Pro, they're going to be walking around and visiting other parts of the area and city."

Memphis Mayor AC Wharton says, even with the delay, he says Bass Pro will follow through and fulfill its promise. According to Wharton, "If you look at all of the changes, for the better it is well worth working on it. You remember in the court room I said, I don't try cases fast, I try them right.... we're not going to do bass pro fast we're going to do it right."

But for many folks in the Pinch District right can't come fast enough. Thomas weighs in, "Hurry...just hurry."
