It's a quiet afternoon at TPC Southwind. The only sounds that can be heard are of grounds crews putting the finishing touches on the golf course for the 2013 FedEx St. Jude Classic.
Tournament Director, Phil Cannon says getting the course ready for this year's PGA event has been more of a challenge because of the rain in the Mid South.
"We've had a cool, wet, spring. Prior to May 15th, we only had two days above 80. The average is 17 days, so it has affected the grass but the last two weeks, we've had some 70 degree nights and 80 degree days. So, the grass has come a long way in the last two weeks," Cannon said.
Cannon says even though we are expecting more rain over the weekend, the crew at Southwind is prepared and will have the course in great shape for some of the biggest names in golf.
"We've got a great field: Phil Mickelson is at the top of the field. Ian Poulter, Brandt Snedeker Guan Tianlang from China is in the field," Cannon said.
But the FedEx St Jude Classic isn't just about the golfers, it's also about pleasing the fans. Cannon says in addition to watching great golf, fans can enjoy "movie" night on Friday with Caddie Shack playing on the 18th green. And of course, they will have plenty of food vendors...including a fan favorite!
"We have Pronto pups in 1, 2 and 3-foot long versions," Cannon said.
