BERKLEY, Mich. (WJBK) -

The owners of a pit bull behind an attack say they did everything the could to keep their dog from getting out, but some say this dog was just too vicious to be in the neighborhood.

It happened Friday afternoon in Berkley. Kevin Fisher's grandchildren went around the corner to play with some friends. One of the kids went in the house and left a door open. A pit bull came charging out and bit a seven-year-old boy on the forehead and attacked his eight-year-old sister.

"She's got some dog bites on her back, on her arms, on her legs. They're all puncture wounds," Fisher said.

An adult inside the house was able to get the dog off the children. Animal Control later removed the pit from the home.

A woman who wished to remain anonymous said the two-year-old dog was a family pet that got along well with children.

"I'm sorry. I really don't know what else to say. I can't imagine how terrified and how scary that would've been," she said.

"He didn't start showing aggressiveness until he was probably a year old," she added. "He got really territorial toward like other animals and stuff when he was in our yard, so we started muzzling him. We had a kennel put in the back yard on top of the privacy fence that we kept him in."

"I don't think I'd really buy a dog again."

Despite those measures, neighbors say the pit was a neighborhood nuisance long before the attack.

"He barked ruthlessly through the fence. He wanted to attack anything that it could. They had a muzzle on it in the house. Who muzzles their own dog in their own house if it's that safe?" a neighbor remarked.

The kids are expected to be fine, but the pit bull is scheduled to be euthanized. Meanwhile, the owner will likely face criminal charges. Police are investigating to determine what charges are appropriate.
