Why is bird feeding ruffling feathers in Roseville?

ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) -

The Oroshi family from Roseville is real serious about keeping their property spic-and-span. They have put in a brand new pool, some patio furniture and a privacy fence.

Now here's the bummer.

"We can't even enjoy our own back yard," says Tammi Oroshi. "Ever since April of last year, our neighbor behind us has been feeding the pigeons and the blackbirds."

"All the bottom of the pool is covered in bird feces."

Oroshi says the fence is full of feces, too. Yes, her feathers are ruffled, but she's not the only one flapping. Maryanne Poley lives right next door to the neighbor who they say has been a nuisance. They tell us she has loaded barrels, buckets and bowls with bird feed, and the little chirpers are chowing down.

"Bring your car out of the garage. Splat," Poley says. "You can walk out in the driveway. Splat."

"I hate to even barbecue out there. We barbecue in the garage."

"They eat and... my back yard is their toilet," Oroshi says. "I filed complaints with the City of Roseville."

"The next day, the city came along and gave us a citation," Poley says. "She works for the city."

"Two days later, I then receive a violation in the mail," Oroshi says. "I filed a report with the city for them to investigate her using her position as a city employee to get even with us."

"If she was using her position in the city to get some one up on this, I would have her under review and have her disciplined," says Mayor John Chirkun, who tells us this employee works in Records for Roseville P.D.

"The city has... given her a warning notice. If she complies with the warning notice within ten days, then the matter is closed and they'll close the file out," Chirkun says.

But neighbors say she hasn't let up.

"All we're asking is for her please to have a little bit of decency and respect for your neighbors," Oroshi says.

"If it was any other house in the neighborhood, this wouldn't be tolerated," Poley says.

"She is not getting any special treatment just like any other citizen in Roseville would," Chirkun says. "If she's using excessive bird feed, it brings rodents and she will be cited or she will be given a warning to clean it up, and as a matter of fact, tomorrow I will go there with my city manager and look at the premises myself to see what's going on."
