Memphis man last seen at Walls traffic stop, family questions Miss. PD's story

CLARKSDALE, Miss. (FOX13) -

A Clarksdale, Mississippi woman says she wants her son back, and she doesn't believe she is getting the truth or the full story from the Walls Mississippi's Police Department.

James Irby Jr. disappeared on May 4th after a traffic stop in Walls.

The family says they were told that James Irby Jr. ran from police during a traffic stop. The family says, among other things, they don't believe that. They claim James Irby Jr. couldn't have run.

Ethel Allen recounts the last time she talked to her son James on the phone on May 4th. James was on the way to Clarksdale for a Funeral.

"He was at Walls, Mississippi. He got stopped by the police and the policeman talked to me, he told me that James had told him everything and that it was true and he was going to give him a ticket and that he was going to let him come to the funeral so that's the last I know. Then police called again and told me that James had run cross the highway said he didn't tase him going across the highway, but he tased him as he got across the highway," says Ethel.

Ethel Allen says she was told by Walls P.D. that her son ran through a field near Church and Highway 61 before pausing near two trees and disappearing into a swamp, he hasn't been seen since.

James' mom says, "I just want my son, I don't care if he is dead or alive, but we don't know they ain't tellin' us nothin."

According to Allen, the officer who stopped her son told her James ran when the officer found two small bags of marijuana in his car. She doesn't believe that her son ran, she said he had gout and prostate cancer and couldn't have run that far. "James couldn't run that far on his foot…he couldn't run that far.

People say marijuana is good for the pain in the body and the marijuana he had it in a two little bags a little in each bag, it wasn't for sale cuz if he was gonna sell it he would have already had it fixed up."

Allen says after James disappeared, Walls PD says they conducted a search and the family conducted several searches of their own.

He said they called the search team in and dogs and said the dogs said they took it far as the water and that was it.

"I done had all my grandchildren, great grandchildren and nephews out there walking the fields and the swamps and they ain't seen no sign of them," says Allen.

Walls Police Department has not returned our phone call in regard to the disappearance of Mr. Irby; the NAACP is assisting his family at this point and is reporting their findings to the State of Mississippi.
