We first introduced you to Jennifer McCullough almost two years ago. She had a small start up company of a few appetizers and entrees that she not only concocted, but then packaged her dishes, froze them and dropped them off at several area stores.
She stocked them in freezers herself and built a very strong, loyal, local following.
McCullough's dream was to some day be in Kroger grocery stores in The South. Well that dream has now come true and beginning in August you will find Chef McCullough's product in Kroger stores throughout the Mississippi Delta region.
"There are a lot of people that looked at me like I was crazy when I said I'm starting a frozen food company," Chef McCullough said. "I'm going retail with it and it's going to be in a grocery store, and here I am."
Stephanie Beliles met Chef McCullough more than a year ago when she wrote a feature article in her 4Memphis magazine about her Uptown Grocer concept. Since then the two have become good friends.
"It took her a really long time," Beliles said. "Took her three years to really fine tune this. Certainly not easy when you have a young child running around and you have a lot on your plate, you're single and she did most of it herself. She really is independent and a hometown hero."
There is this old saying "be careful what you pray for." With success comes new responsibility.
"I've got much hard work in front of me," McCUllough said. "Got to put product on the shelves is really, really hard. Keeping it on the shelves is even harder. But I'm excited and the product is awesome and this is my dream."
