A fixture of the University of Memphis and the city's cheerleading community has passed away.
Frankie Conklin, the Director of the Tiger Spirit Squads since 2004 died this morning. He was 53 years old.
Conklin's squads won 12 national titles over the years. He also owned Memphis Elite All-Stars, a cheer and dance program that awards scholarships to graduating seniors.
With more than 32 years experience in the cheerleading industry, Conklin is known throughout the country.
The Universal Dance Association released a statement, "we are sad to say that we lost a true pioneer of the cheerleading and dance team industry. The impact he has made will surely live on."
