MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Images from the Moore, Oklahoma, tornado devastation hit home for Memphis Grizzlies Player Tony Allen; he went to college at Oklahoma State and still has friends living in the area hit by the EF-5 tornado.

"One of my friends, Randy Poe, he was… I think it missed him by, like, three miles or something," says Allen, "I pray for these families that were affected, pray for my friends."

Immediately after seeing the destruction, Allen went to work with his public relations team; they brought the Red Cross to the FedEx Forum in Memphis during the Western Conference Finals to collect donations from fans attending the game.

"My heart opens up to the people. I just felt like it was the right thing to do and it's just where my heart is at," says Allen.

Allen says they do not have a set monetary goal; he just encourages those attending the Grizzlies game to contribute, adding, "Just donate whatever you can donate. Memphis Grizzlies, me myself, we're trying to match every donation. Anything will help. Just open your hearts up."

The Red Cross will be at the FedEx Forum during the Western Conference Finals games on Saturday and Monday.
