Graduation day for Memphis City School students is bittersweet: A day celebrating graduating high school but it is also the last round of high school graduates from the Memphis City School district before the merger.
"The kids who are in lower classes they're going to be used to graduating with their school by now they're merging schools and at going to be awkward," says one Sheffield High School graduate.
Collette Vaughn, an MCS graduate in 1971, watched her granddaughter Tia Baldwin graduate from the same school system she did.
"I think it's special to have a grandchild coming out this last year of this system," says Vaughn, "My prayer is that this new school system is going to being forth an even better school system than the schools system that I came out of."
The first year of the merged Memphis City Schools and Shelby County Schools systems starts in August.
