ATLANTA -

Some severe storms popped up in the northern parts of the state on Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service issued some severe thunderstorm warnings as the storms moved through the area.

FOX 5 Storm Team chief meteorologist Ken Cook says the cold front that sparked the violent storms in the central and southern Plains this week moved into the area and caused the storms. The strongest storms steered north of Georgia.

Some FOX 5 viewers in Hall County reported hail.

Scattered storms continued to appear late in Wednesday, but the front should push far enough east of the area to shut down the rain before sunrise Thursday.

Storm total rainfall will average 1/10th to ¼" for most areas, but the heaviest downpours could dump a full inch of rain in some areas.
