Three Memphis suburbs approve municipal schools referendum

Posted: Updated:
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Three more Shelby County suburbs will hold referendums this summer to create a municipal school system in their respective cities.

Monday, leaders in Arlington, Collierville, and Millington approved separate ordinances for a July 16th referendum vote.

Today Lakeland's board of commissioners will have the final reading on it's ordinance. Bartlett and Germantown Boards of Mayor and Aldermen will vote on Thursday.

Why the rush this week? Suburban leaders must approve the ordinances by the end of the week in order for the Shelby County Election Commission to put the referendums on the July 16th ballot.
