MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

In America, English is considered the most common language. Although, this country is seemingly a melting pot, the average American can only speak or read one language.

For one University of Memphis student, his love of language started with English, but 42 other languages later, he says he's just beginning.

Brandon Jones plans to graduate at the end of the year with a bachelor of arts. He's a triple major in Spanish, German and Japanese.

"Over time I decided to broaden my horizon within the course of 12 years, I've managed to acquire 42 languages," says Jones.

He says thanks to his mother, he took Spanish in high school where his love for foreign languages began to evolve.

Brandon says now that he's conquered a couple of languages between the continents of Asia and Europe. He wants to study other languages from the continents of Africa or South America.

Jones says his passion for higher education doesn't stop with language, since he plans to come back and get a degree in Physics and Chemistry.

Jones says after graduation, he plans to get a job working as a translator.
