A body was recovered by firefighters inside a Nicholas Street home after a fire engulfed the uptown Memphis home Monday morning, said Lt. Wayne Cooke, Memphis Fire spokesman.
Firefighters were dispatched to the one-story wood frame home in the 1400 block of Nicholas Street just before 4:15 a.m.
After the fire was brought under control about a half hour later, firefighters conducted a search inside the home and found a body of an adult male in the living room.
The name and age of the fire victim has not been released pending positive identification by the Shelby County Medical Examiner.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and it is unclear if the house had a working smoke detector.
