Many people eat chicken as a healthy alternative to other meats, but a new study shows it might not be all that good for you.
Researchers at Johns Hopkins University recently took samples of chicken from grocery stores across the country and found traces of arsenic.
Chicken producers will add arsenic-based drugs to chicken feed to speed up their growth and to improve the pigmentation of the meat. The drugs are also approved to treat and prevent parasites in poultry, according to researchers.
Lower amounts of arsenic were found in organic chicken.
Arsenic is known to increase the risk of cancer, according to a new study led by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future.
