Former Philly Police Officer Hailed As Hero Charged With Rape

Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Shattered storm-door glass on the porch were some of the visible remnants of a police raid that led to the arrest of  former Philadelphia Police Officer Richard DeCoatsworth at his Port Richmond home early Saturday morning.

Once hailed as a hero after surviving a shotgun blast to his face in 2007, DeCoatsworth is now charged with raping and sexually assaulting two women at gunpoint he met Thursday night at a party.

From the woman hanging out of DeCoatsworth's second-story window to the two people who appeared to be parental figures walking into the former officer's home, no one close to DeCoatsworth would talk about the charges against the former officer.

Police say DeCoatsworth took the two female victims to a "confidential location where he allegedly forced the two females to engage in the use of narcotics and sexual acts."

Sources tell us he prostituted the women out for a couple of days. Police say when he finally left, the women called police.

This is a long fall from grace for the former officer. He was given the Philadelphia Police Department's  Medal of Valor. He also sat next to First Lady Michelle Obama during the State of the Union address in 2009.

During that same year questions started swirling after he shot at two suspects. There were also complaints to Internal Affairs. In 2011, DeCoatsworth resigned from the force, FOX 29's Omari Fleming reported.
