A memorial fund was created by the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) in remembrance of Chantel Sanders, a MATAplus driver who was killed May 14 in a traffic accident on I-240.
Ms. Sanders had been a MATAplus driver since 2005.
The memorial fund at Regions Bank was created for Ms. Sanders' family, MATA said.
"We have received hundreds of calls and emails from the Memphis community, local businesses and transit systems from across the country expressing their condolences for the family of our employee, Chantel Sanders," said William Hudson, MATA president and general manage. "Because of the outpouring of concern, and most want to make a donation to the family, a fund has been set-up at a bank."
MATA has established a fund to provide financial assistance for Sanders' son and mother. The funds donated will hope to go to Marquel D. Downey's college education. He is expected to graduate from high school on May 17. He has aspirations to attend college.
Donations may be made at any Region Bank branch.
"We appreciate all of the calls, and continue to ask everyone to keep Chantel Sanders' family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," said Hudson.
