Memphis Police are trying to identify a man who tried to kidnap a 74-year-old woman while she was loading items in her car Tuesday afternoon.

The attempted kidnapping took place just after 1 p.m. in the 500 block of Mendenhall.

The woman told police she was approached by an unknown suspect who claimed he needed to get to Nashville. She told the man she was unable to drive him. The suspect then stated, "Get in the car, I have a gun."

The attempted kidnapping victim, who was not injured, told police she ran away from the suspect.

He told police he took a photo of the suspect.

The suspect is described as white male between 48-52 years of age, between 5-foot-7-inches and 5-foot-9 in height, and weighing around 170 lbs. The picture shows the suspect with brown hair and a receding hair line. He was wearing an orange and white striped shirt with blue jeans.
