The Talker: Families pay disabled escort to skip Disney lines

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

If a story in one of the New York tabloids is true, some families have been acting kind of sketchy on vacation.

The lines for rides at Disney World are infamous for being long. The New York Post reports a phone number was shared among families at some of Manhattan's private elementary schools for a service that will zip you right through those lines at Disney.

The paper did not name her, but the woman is quoted as boasting: "this is how the 100-percent does Disney."

So, what's the trick? Disney allows people who are physically challenged to go right to the front of lines and bring up to six people with them. So, the people are said to have hired a disabled person to hang out at Disney with them.

The so-called service, which has nothing to do with the Disney company itself, is reported to cost $130 an hour.

The other person reported said to be familiar with the shady line-skipping is an anthropologist and author who posted mouse ears on her blog with the headline "Privilege Has Its Privileges Everywhere."

The author says the phone number to get a disabled friend was shared very carefully among only certain families.

The company reported to be selling the service did not answer the phone when we called several times and did not reply to our email, but a section of its website titled "VIP tours" says:

"Due to inaccurate press and slander, we are not offering VIP tours at this time. Our focus has primarily always been providing magical vacations for adults with special needs and helping their dreams to come true."

Disney sells official, legit passes that let you skip the lines, but they cost much more than the alleged shady side business.
