The body of a Villa Rica man who went missing at Talladega Superspeedway has been found.
Nicholas Bower, 28, disappeared sometime between May 4 and 5. His girlfriend, Jennifer Boesch, said that he stayed by a campfire in the racetrack's campground while she went to sleep in their truck. When she woke a few hours later, Nicholas was gone.
For more than a week, Boesch drove back to Talladega from Villa Rica to join Nicholas' mother and sister who'd flown in from Indianapolis, in the search for the missing man.
That search ended on Tuesday when the Talladega County Coroner's office confirmed that a body found in Choccolocco Creek was Bower's. The Talladega County sheriff's office said the body was discovered by search crews in a helicopter about a mile and a half from the campsite where he was last seen.
The body was reportedly hidden by tall grasses in the creek.
Bower was identified by the clothes he was wearing and there was no sign of any foul play, according to the coroner's office. The body also carried Bower's identification. The coroner's office said it will take an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Bower's family said in a statement, "Nick's body has been recovered. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers during his unimaginable time."
Bower had gone to Talladega with co-workers from Fastenal in Atlanta and his girlfriend.
Boesch told FOX 5, "Nobody can light a candle to all the joy and love he has brought me. He will always be my rock. I know he's watching down on me."
