PHOENIX -

One of three people accused of giving a 2-year-old a powerful drug to help with a toothache will be sentenced.

Misty Dawn Murphy, who pleaded guilty to attempt to commit child abuse will appear in court Tuesday morning.

According to authorities, Murphy was with the child's parents, Jennifer Campos and Anthony Casillas, in a Phoenix motel room who were reportedly hiding out from Child Protective Services when she gave the toddler methadone.

The boy had been complaining from a toothache. According to a police report, Murphy allegedly mixed a methadone and Kool-Aid cocktail, and gave it to the child's father who provided it to the child's mother who gave it to the child.

The boy became intoxicated off the substance, overdosed, lost consciousness and stopped breathing. Paramedics were able to revive him and transport him to Phoenix Children's Hospital.

When Campos was asked why she didn't call a dentist about the baby's tooth pain, she said she didn't have insurance and didn't want to risk her children being taken away.

Both parents were booked into jail on 4 counts of child abuse and 3 counts of child neglect.
