Valerie Jarrett to speak at Atlanta commencement

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - Clark Atlanta University officials have announced Valerie B. Jarrett will speak at the school's commencement ceremony.

School spokesman Larry Calhoun Friday said Jarrett, a senior advisor to President Barack Obama and chair of the White House Council on Women and Girls, will speak at the ceremony on May 20.

University President Carlton Brown says Jarrett is a powerful leader with the ability to bring together diverse groups of people and create solutions to help overcome obstacles.

Before working for the Obama administration, Jarrett worked as chief executive officer for The Habitat Company in Chicago, co-chair of the Obama-Biden presidential transition team and senior advisor on the Obama for America campaign.

Jarrett earned a bachelor's degree from Stanford in 1978 and graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1981.
