Olive Branch Police arrested former DeSoto County Schools substitute teacher Julie Pope of Hernando, Miss., on charges of statutory rape of a minor.
Charges stem from the 27-year-old's relationship with a 14-year-old male student.
She was a substitute teacher at Olive Branch Middle School, a school district spokesperson said. Her name has been removed from the substitute teacher list.
She is out on bond, which was set at $10,000.
Pope is expected to appear or a preliminary court hearing on May 14.
Pope passed background checks to work for the school district and for Kelly Services, the professional agency who hires substitute teachers to work in DCS, a district spokesperson said.
During her employment, DCS has no reports of illegal or inappropriate conduct, the district said.
Pope has not worked for DeSoto County Schools since December 2012.
The school district said it will fully cooperate with the Olive Branch Police Department's investigation.
