Getting guns off the street to make local neighborhoods safer is the goal of the "Groceries for Guns" event taking place on Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The weapons surrender program, at the New St. Paul Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Detroit, will allow those interested in surrendering any type of unloaded gun to do so with no questions asked. In exchange, individuals will receive a $50 gift card to Meijer for each gun turned in.
"Groceries for Guns" is sponsored by Southfield-based personal injury law firm, Goodman Acker, P.C., and made possible through a public-private partnership with Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano, Wayne County Sheriff Benny N. Napoleon and Bishop P.A. Brooks.
