Ariz. man gets prison term after years on the run

Updated:

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - An Arizona man who became a fugitive rather than go on trial in two assault cases now faces 7½ years in prison after being apprehended a decade later.

The Daily Courier, reports that Judge Cele Hancock of Yavapai County Superior Court sentenced Randolph Blaise DeLeon on Tuesday.

DeLeon disappeared in 2003 while awaiting charges accusing him of pointing a gun at a man in one case and of pistol-whipping his ex-girlfriend, threatening to shoot her and leaving 44 messages on her answering machine in another case.

In 2012, British authorities discovered he was in that county illegally and expelled him. DeLeon was arrested when he arrived in Phoenix on a plane from London.

DeLeon pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and stalking.
